Hands down Sapporo has the BEST Ramen EVER!!!  Hokkaido, the most Northern Island of Japan is famous for ramen.  Because it is very cold most of the year, ramen is very popular there. While visiting Sapporo recently, I bumped into a Ramen Village.  I was in Heaven!  These nostalgically themed ramen restaurants are located on the 10th floor of the Esta Shopping Center, Sapporo JR Station.  There are eight different nostalgic ramen restaurants that represents four different prefectures of Hokkaido.  Only the best of the best are here: Asahikawa, Hakodate, Kushiro and of course Sapporo.  When your all done you can even shop at the souvenir shop.

Tokyo’s Skytree

Skytree Photo Source: ionasiatrend.com

Standing at 634 meters or 2,080.5 feet stands the worlds tallest free-standing broadcasting tower in the world.  An interesting fact about how the Skytree’s height capped off at 634 meters.  Historically the Skytree stands in an old province called Musashi.  The ancient japanese way to say the numbers 6. 3. 4. is pronounced:

Mu (6)

Sa (3)

Shi (4)

Spelled out Musashi, ironically the height of the tower and the old province in which it stands.

Inside the Skytree’s observation deck, you will find a 360° view of Tokyo Metropolis.  But don’t expect to walk right into the tower.  We had about a 3 hour wait.                                                                                                                                                         At Skytree’s arrival lobby on level 4 we were given a ticket.  One ticket for each person in your party.  DO NOT lose this ticket.  You will not be able to enter into the tower without it.  On this ticket there is a time for you and your party to come back.  Do not be late, late members will not be admitted.

We had about an hour an half wait till we needed to come back.  During this time we shopped at the mall in the tower.  Skytree’s Mall called Solamachi has more than 300 shops and restaurants, click here for shop information.  Finally after almost 3 hours of waiting we were greeted with an amazing view of Tokyo Metropolis.

WTH is The Liebster Blog Award? Because I got one….

What the heck is The Liebster Award…..? Apparently, this award is given to bloggers from bloggers.  Liebster in German means kind, sweet and beloved.  Like a chain letter, this award is passed on and it seems no one knows of the origins or when this award began. The rules are simple and has varied over time. If your blog is nominated and you accept the award:

Display the award on your blog, the simplest way is to save the image and then upload it.

Recognize and link back to the blogger that nominated you

Answer the set of questions (asked by the blogger who nominated your blog)

Nominate 10 other bloggers with 200 or less followers (not as easy as it seems)

Ask your own set of 10 questions

Finally, let your nominees know you nominated them for the award. You can do this by going on to their blog and notify them.

The choice is yours if you would like to accept the award or not.  In my opinion this just a way to discover and recognize new bloggers and welcome and encourage them to our world of blogging.

With that being said, I feel very honored to have been nominated for the Liebster Blog Award.  Thank you onlyinthebay for the nominee.  Wow, what an honor!!  I have never been honored in any such way before.  Thank you very much. Its been an amazing 3 months back into blogging.  My wonderful friend Keito, from Keitochansays.com has also been an amazing friend that encouraged me to start back into blogging again, every time he saw me.  No matter how much excuses I had, Keito had a reason why I needed to stop giving excuses.  Thanks Keito!

Recently, I’ve had wonderful comments on my posts, I’ve had coworkers tell me they follow my blog, I never even told them I had a blog, that makes me feel so honored.  Thank you all for the encouragement, thank you for pushing me and thank you for sharing and retweeting. Now for the questions my nominee onlyinthebay asked me:

1. What got you to start blogging?

For me, I wanted to share my love for my culture.  Im half Japanese and I’ve always been proud to be Asian. I want to be recognized as an Asian American Blogger

2. How long have you been blogging for?

I started blogging in September 2012, I believe.  After a few months, I stopped.  I just started blogging again in December 2013 so technically about 6 maybe 7 months, just not consistent.  This award helps to encourage me as well.

3. What do you have a hard time with in terms of writing?

I have the hardest time thinking what I should blog about.  I start writing many times and I change my mind half way through, thinking it may not be a topic anyone would like to read about.

4. What kind of movies do you like?

Oh boy, movies…… I like adventures and comedy the most.

5. What is one dish you can not live with out?

Rice, I think for me it would definitely be japanese rice.

6. Is there a specific spot you like to be when you write? if so where?

I usually sit on the floor in the living room, using our Ikea footstool as my table.

7. If there is one place in the world you would like to go to right now; where would that be and who would you bring with you?

Thats easy, Japan.  Sapporo, to be exact.  I’d bring my husband and children of course.

8. If you were to go to a deserted island, what three things would you bring with you?

I’d bring my husband, a blanket and a knife

9. What is the strangest food you have ever tried?

Fried plantation

10. Have you ever been nominated for a liebster award before?

No, Never. Many thanks again for the nominee and for this opportunity, onlyinthebay.

Now for my 10 nominees for The Liebster Award:

My set of questions are:

1. Please tell us what made you want to start blogging?

2. If you were famous what would it be for?

3. What makes you smile?

4. What advise would like to share with other new or newer bloggers?

5. Do you have a favorite blogger or blog to visit and why?

6. Who or what inspires you and why?

7. If you could vacation anywhere, where would you go and why?

8. What is your favorite meal?

9. Is there a beauty product you can’t live without?

10. Favorite animal?

It was hard for me to find blogs with 200 or less followers.  Its not always easy to discern how many followers some blogs have.  So, if you have more than 200, my apologies.  No one is obligated to accept this award.  I know some blogs may not except awards, that is not always easy to discern too.  Again, my apologies if I included your site.

I was also thinking of just starting a post for anyone who has 200 or less followers to just leave their blog post for others to easily recognize and follow.  Stay tuned, I may be doing something like that in the near future……

Don’t forget to follow me for the latest asian trends….

This is all in fun and thank you.

ANA Pulls Racist Commercial

What are your thoughts? Do you find this commercial to be racist?  ANA intention was not to be racist according to Japan Today. The commercial aired January 18th, 2014 and is spoken in english with japanese subtitles to promote ANA international flights.

In the commercial two ANA pilots talk about going to Vancouver and Hanoi. One pilot offers the other a hug, the response back was a blank stare “such a japanese reaction” (public affections between men are not common in Japan).  “Lets change the image of japanese people” said the pilot that offered a hug. This is where the commercial gets strange, “of course” replies the other pilot, now he is wearing a blonde wig and a fake big nose.  As you can imagine the ad sparked negative responses and customers canceling their loyalty cards.  ANA posted an apology on their Facebook page and has pulled the commercial.  What are your thoughts? Do you find this commercial offensive?

Does your face give away your age?

Old lady

Old lady (Photo credit: N.Calzas)

Crepey skin and turkey neck can make you look older than you really are. Varying from person to person, signs of aging begins in our late 20’s (eeks!).  Sagging skin, crows feet and marionette lines (smile lines when your not smiling) are signs of facial aging. Smoking, pollution, sun exposure, sleep positions and facial expressions are just a few factors that contribute to this facial aging.

English: 1BKV Collagen triple helix

English: 1BKV Collagen triple helix (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I believe I speak for the majority of mature adults, in that we would all like to look and stay young looking.  The question is, how?  An important factor in keeping and staying young is collagen.  Collagen is a protein that is found in our bodies (for the scientific breakdown check out SmartSkincare.com) it is essential for younger looking skin. Im sure you have seen commercials and ads mentioning collagen enhancing moisturizers.  Collagen added in our skincare is nothing new, but many times these magical promises of skin plumping miracles fall short.  The collagen molecules are either too large or too small or bogus all together, so the product is not helping you achieve that younger look.  Some that do work, usually give us that temporary satisfaction.  Since Im no doctor or scientist checkout SmartSkincare.com they inform savvy shoppers like you and me about products and their ingredients.  This quote is taken from their site: “SmartSkinCare.com is an independent skin care information portal for savvy consumers. We don’t sell skin care products or cosmetics. Nor do we endorse skin care manufacturers. Our goal is to help you make genuinely informed choices in skin care and rejuvenation.”

Theres got to be another way to get this collagen. In Asia collagen liquid drinks have been very popular.  There are many brands out there and of course they all claim they have that “magic pill” in this case “magic drink”.  New to America, Lac Taut Brand has some very impressive Data and Safety Profile this is quoted from their site:

  • “FDA classifies ingestible collagen as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS)”
  • “Taut collagen peptide is comprised of 90% Type I Collagen (shown to support skin and joint health) and 10% Type III, providing the highest quality and effectiveness out of 28 types of collagen*”
  • “Taut is manufactured in Japan according to stringent GMP (good manufacturing practices)”
  • “Each ingredient is tested and certified safe by Japanese independent standards organizations”

“Packaged in sealed glass bottles for optimal sterility and integrity”  Made specificly for the American market, there is no fish taste or powders to mix, just drink! and let science do the rest.  I have not tried this product yet. I’ve been wanting to try a collagen drink, but wasn’t sure which ones were worth trying.  I was so impressed with the scientific backing, I had to write about it.  For more information on this company and product please check out their site at www.renewalliance.com

There are many other ways to increase collagen.  I will continue on this subject in a series of different methods to help increase collagen to stay youthful looking.

I would like to hear from you if you’ve tried this product and what your thoughts and results were.

If you tried another brand of liquid collagen drinks please let me know which ones you liked or ones I should stay away from.

Toyota’s Topless Model Commercial airs only in Japan (Video)

Toyota shocked the world when they recently released their new 2013 Auris Hatchback commercial.  Before you think I actually downloaded a commercial of a topless woman to share with the world, think again.  Your mind sees what it wants!!! That’s what 19 year old male model Stav Strashko who is the topless model seen in this commercial ad said.  Stav is a androgyny model.  That means he has features that could pass as either a woman or a man.  Stav has modeled for both womens and mens clothing, but he has never thought of becoming a woman and he is very comfortable in his own skin.  Read more on Strav Strashko in Candy Magazine.

Toyota’s slogan for the ad reads “Not trendy, not casual, not for everyone”.

See for yourself the ad that sparked controversy.

The commercial in this post is not mine. Please see pimenta diaria youtube channel for more videos, including this one.
